Welcome
The International Society on Alzheimer Research (ISAO) and the American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) organized a succesfull second edition of the workshop on "Update on Alzheimer Research" as a premeeting to the SfN in Washington from November 12 to 14, 2008.
You missed it but do not worry we will organize a similar workshop on November 10-12th 2010 in San Diego, preceding the Society for Neuroscience in San Diego, SAVE THE DATE
33 PhD students of 9 different countries (Australia, Finland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and US) participated in this three day workshop which was organized as a Master Class i.e. morning lectures and afternoon / evening debates and discussion groups. Scientists and students met in a closed venue nearby Washington D.C.. We invited professors and post docs from US, Canada and Europe and the premeeting was evaluated with an average of a 9 foreducational effect, organization and average quality of the teachers.
It was an opportunity for PhD students to discuss their projects with colleagues and experts and learn the latest approaches in Alzheimer’s research. With this knowledge it was even more attempting to focus and participate in the SfN afterwards! Our goal is to have a high interaction between senior scientists and PhD students!
This year we invited professors in the field of Alzheimer's disease from US, Canada and Europe and the premeeting was very successfull both for senior as junior scientists. Prof. Remi Quirion (Mc Gill University, CAN), Prof. Thomas Arendt (Leipzig University GER), Prof. Samir Kumar-Singh (University of Antwerp, BEL), Dr. Elliott Mufson (Rush University, USA), Dr. Paul Lucassen (University Amsterdam, NL), Dr. Thomas Bayer (University of Gottingen, GER), Dr. Ilse de Wachter (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, BEL), Dr. Eliezer Masliah (University of Calfornia, USA), Dr. Guojon Bu (Washington University, USA), Prof. Edward Koo (University of California, USA), Dr. Henriette van Praag (National Institute on Aging, USA) and Dr. Cynthia Lemere (Harvard Medical School Boston, USA) all shared their knowledge and expertise with the students! Thanks!
